New Building on its Way in Crown Heights Near Brooklyn Botanic Garden

CROWN HEIGHTS — Another new building will soon go up in Crown Heights by the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.

Permits have been filed with the Department of Buildings for a 17-story development, which will have both residential and commercial uses, New York YIMBY first reported. The 175-foot development, 54 Crown Street, will bring 569 apartments, have approximately 7,400 square feet of commercial space and 1,500 square feet of community space, as well as 182 enclosed parking spaces. The residential units will likely be rentals, according to YIMBY.

The lot, which now sits vacant, is located about two blocks away from the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, where in the area a series of new developments are planned and are currently under construction. There, 111 Montgomery Street is nearing its final development stage, 960 Franklin Avenue— slated to replace the Spice Factory—is undergoing public review, and the recently approved Franklin Ave. rezoning paved the way for 40 Crown Street and 931 Carroll Street.
